The Millstadt Police Department presented their 16th annual D.A.R.E. College Scholarship, at the village board meeting on May 22nd.  The requirements for the $1,000 scholarship include possessing at least a 3.0 GPA, submit three letters of reference, compose an essay on how good decision making can affect their future, and how volunteering and community service creates a better community.  The candidate also had to graduate from Millstadt Consolidated School or St. James School.

This year’s winner is Ashley Geluck.  She is the daughter of Brian and Stacey Geluck.  She is a graduate of Millstadt Consolidated School, and recent graduate of Belleville West High School.  Ashley was active in Student Council, the National Honors Society, Science Olympiad, Astronomy Club, the golf team, and was the captain of the volleyball team.

Through the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy, Ashley helped the school win a $10,000 Coca-Cola grant for creating ways to make the community and school more environmentally friendly.

She has spoken to elementary school students about how important respect and decision making is whey they got to high school.

Ashley helped to create fundraisers to donate to women’s shelters and to donate clothes and supplies to refugees in St. Louis.

This fall, Ashley will be attending Lindenwood University where she plans on majoring in Biological Sciences.

Congratulations, Ashley!
